Yesteryear Collection

Although WWI predates modern fuel tanker trucks in combat logistics, various camions (trucks) were used by the French Army for transport roles and could be fitted with tanker bodies (*camion-citerne).
Renault supplied thousands of trucks of various capacities to the French Army, especially from 1915 onward. These were used for general logistic transport and could be outfitted with tank or barrel bodies for carrying water, fuel, or other liquids.
Various civilian vehicles were also requisitioned or purchased to augment military transport.

* In the WWI context, camion-citerne refers to a truck fitted with a large tank or tank bodies on its chassis, used to carry liquid supplies - typically water for troops and horses, fuel for vehicles, generators, and equipment or other non-combustible liquid supplies.
